‘Fever is the body’s rebellion, an insistence on its own agency. It signals not just intrusion or injury, but the body’s refusal to remain neutral – to stay cool and contained. In the heightened temperature of fever, the senses sharpen. Colors burn brighter, sounds penetrate deeper. Periphery becomes urgency, each sensation a small blaze. In the heat, we glimpse not just what threatens us, but what quickens us – what makes us feel most alive’ (James Richards)
Very little music comes as close to the fever-dream state as that of the British composer Rebecca Saunders. In Us Dead Talk Love, sound and word becomes fleshy, the text A Primer for Cadavers by artist Ed Atkins – ‘a stream of conciousness which is at times palpable, close, intimate and dauntingly present’ (Saunders) – worming its way into the voice of Noa Frankel and the musicians of Ensemble Nikel like a kind of virus, infecting them, pushing them into ever more heightened, hallucinatory worlds. LCMF presents the London premiere.
This night takes its name from the 2025 exhibition by Welsh artist James Richards at the Grazer Kunstverein. Expect dizzy spells and delirium from Richards’s new Gesamtkunstwerk for LCMF,, a video and performance work created in collaboration with electroacoustic dream-weavers Ora Clementi (aka crys cole and James Rushford). And prepare yourself for two mystery interventions, acts of uncanniness, from Fluxus pioneer Milan Knížák and artists Lydia Ourahmane and Sophia Al-Maria.
We also honour the collective hallucination that is the internet with shorts from two key members of the corecore cinema movement – films that hypnotically marshal the vertiginous sickness at the heart of being online: Dana Dawud’s Monad + (2024) and Wonderful Cringe’s Sometimes the memory breaks you (2024).
Bookending the night are two singular visions of electronic frenzy: the alarming sonic kineticism of Petronn Sphene, one half of Guttersnipe, and a visit from those masters of agitation, the American noise duo Prison Religion.
