Véréna Paravel / Lucien Castaing-Taylor somniloquies (2017) (UK premiere)
Maria Beatty / Annie Sprinkle / Pauline Oliveros The Sluts and Goddesses Video Workshop—Or How To Be A Sex Goddess in 101 Easy Steps (1992)
We continue our exploration of the haptic with two extraordinary films. The Sluts and Goddesses Video Workshop, directed by artist Annie Sprinkle and feminist porn pioneer Maria Beatty, and scored by Pauline Oliveros, was premiered at The Kitchen in 1992. Part lecture, part therapy, part pornography, the film offers a psychadelic liberation of the libidinal.
Before this, we present somniloquies, a film commissioned for this year's documenta. Directed by Véréna Paravel and Lucien Castaing-Taylor, members of Harvard's acclaimed Sensory Ethnography Lab, the film stitches together liminal images of sleeping bodies and the words of infamous sleep-talker Dion McGregor, who screams out his lucid dreams in a series of now shocking, how hilarious, rants and rages.
